V2 DIY Kit Pliers don't close

The upper part (right below the joint) of the needle-nose pliers are closing before the tips of the pliers have a chance, so I have no way to grab wire with them. If I were working with large gauge wire, like 16-14 gauge wire I could, but I've yet to hear of anyone making coils using that size wire, so these pliers are useless to me. What do I do? I just got the kit this past week.

    I didn't order from here. I ordered from another site. I've already checked the authenticity code, which passed. Sorry the picture isn't clearer, I just took it with my webcam. The jaws are closed as much as possible, but you can still see air through them. I can try to take a better picture if this one isn't good enough.
